Pieces of Christmas

Paper pieces that is! In just a few days, winter holiday decorations will be in full swing, and poinsettias are a must. We are all about the sights and sounds of the season. Fun red and green designer paper has been paper pieced to create this festive holiday vase using the large floral image from our Winter Sentiments set. The blooms were colored using the Copic Red Trio 2 and Green Trio 3 - the perfect combo for coloring Christmas cards.

Are You Ready...

....for some football?

We love doing custom orders and took on a very fun challenge a couple weeks back, that we find very fitting to share with you today. Especially coming off of the nail biting victory during yesterday's game.

Yes, today we are talking football. But not just any football, more like rivals weekend. Our Buckeyes took home a win over Michigan, and the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Redskins by 1 point in the last few minutes of the game!

So how does this fit into CSS you might wonder? Well A friend of ours, who happens to be a die hard Cowboys fan, has an agreement with her loyal "Giants of New York fan" husband that their newborn son can only wear team onsies if given to them as a gift. Well after several shameless hints, we got the picture. One baby Dallas Cowboy onesie coming up.

Needless to say we received a loving nasty gram, when "Mr. Giants fan" opened his son's new Cowboy attire. We think it was the card symbolizing their 5 Superbowl wins in crystal stars that may have sent him over the top! If only we could have been there to see his reaction - priceless.

But you be the judge. Let us know if we made a touchdown with our Cowboys inspired card...

Peaceful Pines

A little repetition can go a long way! We used the smallest sentiment in the Peaceful Pines set to fill in the spaces between the glittered pine cones. This created a nice custom touch to our designer paper. The card was finished with a simple masked pine cone image, matching sentiment and festive bow.

Today we have the pleasure of introducing Kim Howard.....

Q: When did you start stamping?
A: I started stamping about 8 years ago. I was visiting in Nebraska for work and staying with a friend who pulled out her stamping stuff one day and I've been hooked ever since. I had scrapbooked for years before I discovered stamping so now I enjoy combining the two.

Q: Describe your style?
A: Oh, this is a hard one! I guess I would say that I'm a clean & simple stamper who likes clean lines & layers. I'm not one that has dabbled a lot with techniques on my creations.

Q: What is your favorite CSS set and why?
A: I have to pick just one huh? WOW!!! I think the one I seem to use a lot is Tennis Darling. I love coloring her and there is so much you can do. If I could pick 2 more, I can see Banner of News and Bitty Alpha Modern in my top 5 list.

Q: What do you like about being on a design team?
A: I love being part of this team showcasing stamps they love. I love all the feedback that the DT gives as well as the support of the stamp company owners, who are awesome! I have a blast every month when I get new stamps creating new projects. There is an added amount of excitement knowing that you are creating projects to showcase stamps for a great company.

Q: What advice to you have for new stampers?
A: Experiment with different techniques and styles to find one that works for you. Don't be afraid to join swaps to get new ideas-we all started stamping at one time or another. Ask questions if you see things you like and learn how to do them.

Q: If you had to get rid of all your tools, and could only keep one, which tool would you keep and why?
A: I would have to keep my Janome sewing machine. I am hooked on sewing on my cards.

Party Like It's 2010

If you walk into any store these days, you will see retailers have completely blown past Thanksgiving and are well into Christmas decorations. Well today, we're going a step further by celebrating the New Year. This sneak peek comes from our NEW YEAR stamp set which will be available this Sunday. And we'll be partying like it's 2010! As we continue to sponsor the Caardvarks Challenge this month, we were inspired to create a New Year's circle card.

Caardvarks Countdown Circle Card:

Cut (2) black circle cardstock bases that measure 4.25". (TIP: don't have a circle cutter? No worries our friends over at Embellish Magazine have supplied a free circle template that you can use - thanks Ashley!)
Score one of the circles at 3/4" from the edge.
Apply adhesive and adhere to the second circle.
Stamp large New Year sentiment in white ink on the top 2/3rds of of the circle.
Stamp the Happy New Year image on white, and color in with Copics Markers. (TIP: Add touches of liquid glaze to make the glasses shine.)
Layer the image on black and trim closely. Then repeat with silver metallic paper and trim closely.
Stamp countdown on a 1/4" strip of pink paper and set aside.
Randomly adhere stickers to the card base along the edges.
Pop layered image in the center of the card.
Pop smaller stars to overlap sides of main image.
Take pink countdown strip and adhere on card base at an angle.
Trim pink strip to follow the curve of the card.
Embellish with silver pearls and clear gems.

Fall is in Air Card:

Cut 8.5" x 5.5" piece of brown cardstock. Score at 4.25" and fold along crease.
Cut orange cardstock 2 1/8" x 5.5".
Stamp orange cardstock with large leaves and emboss with gold powder.
Repeat stamping and embossing on the right half of the brown card base.
Adhere orange cardstock to brown base.
Stamp sentiment in green in the empty spaces all over the card base.
Cut gold cardstock 1/8" x 5.5", and adhere strip down the center of the card.
Cut cream cardstock 2 3/8" x 1 1/4".
Layer cream cardstock with gold cardstock panel that is 2 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Stamp mini leaf silhouettes in different color ink on the cream panel.
Stamp sentiment in brown ink above the row of silhouette leaves.
Stamp larger leaf image from the Fall Studio stamp set in different colors of ink, trim out closely and adhere around the border of the cream sentiment panel.
Adhere panel to card base.

Trim leaf image and pop dot to colored circles.
Adhere circles to card: orange, yellow, then green in a straight row.

Leaf Miniature Pillow Boxes:

Print and cut out mini pillow box template on kraft cardstock.
Punch orange, green, and yellow 1 3/8" circles.
Punch out three white 1 1/4" circles.
Adhere white circle to colored circle.
Stamp larger leaf image from Fall Studio stamp set in brown ink on white cardstock.
Trim leaf image and pop dot to colored circles.
Stamp Dots and Lines background images on white labels.
Adhere labels to nuggets.

Introducing Ski Darling....our resident snow diva! This set is full of snow flakes, winter sentiments, background and ski related images. You can't go wrong with this set when planning a Ski Weekend with the Girls!

On the Slopes Card:

Cut 7" x 5" piece of kraft cardstock. Score at 3.5" and fold along crease.
Stamp kraft card base repeatedly with snowflake images from the SKI DARLING stamp set in white ink. (SNEAK PEEK: Ski Darling will be releasing November 15th)
Cut (2) pieces of white cardstock 2" x 3.5". Punch a decorative border punch with a wave patterned to replicate the look of snow banks.
Adhere (1) of the snow banks at 4" down from the top of the card. set card base aside.
Stamp Ski Darling image on white card stock and color with your Copic Markers.
Layer Ski Darling Image onto a dark blue cardstock and trim closely leaving about an 1/8" border.
Adhere Ski Darling panel to card base at a slight angle. Make sure it is placed just a bit below the snow bank.
Stamp the sentiments from the set on the bottom right corner of the second snow bank.
Add the second snow bank along the bottom edge of the card. This should create the layered snow bank to your card.
You can add stickles or glitter to the snowflakes and/or the snow banks to make it pop!

Cut 8.5" x 5.5" piece of brown cardstock. Score at 4.25" and fold along crease.
Cut kraft cardstock 3.5" x 4 5/8". Stamp repeatedly with small floral background from the Wall Flower stamp set. (SNEAK PEEK: Wall Flower will be releasing November 15th)
Cut white cardstock 5" x 3 7/8". Layer kraft panel on white cardstock.
Adhere kraft panel to card base.
Stamp larger leaf image from the Fall Studio stamp set in red ink, trim around the edge, and set aside.
Cut red cardstock 1 5/8" x 4.25".
Cut white strip of cardstock 1" x 4.25". Stamp with sentiment and adhere to red panel on the bottom edge.
Cut 5" of ribbon and adhere to sentiment panel where the white and red cardstock meet.
Adhere sentiment panel to cardbase.
Punch a brown scalloped circle, a red circle 1 3/8" and a white circle 1 1/4".
Adhere the white to the red, then adhere to the brown scalloped circle.
Adhere circle to the card base and pop the trimmed leaf.

Leaves of Thanks

Fall Studio Basket of Thanks:

Download the CSS Basket of Thanks Template and print. (TIP:You can print directly on light colored cardstock or designer paper.)
Since we used a bronze metallic cardstock, trim out the pieces to the template to use as a guide.
Prepare all of your pieces.
Stamp larger leaf images from the Fall Studio stamp set on orange, green and yellow cardstock. Trim out each leaf and set aside.
Stamp smaller leaf silhouettes on each corner and emboss with clear embossing powder.
Assemble basket base.
Cut 8.5" of satin ribbon. Adhere satin ribbon to handle leaving a .5" overhang, to be tucked under on each end.
Adhere handle to basket base with Scor-tape.
Cut enough satin ribbon to make two bows. Make bows and adhere to basket where the handle meets the base.
Adhere the trimmed leaf images between the ribbon and the basket handle. Play with placement until you have achieved the look you require.
Fill your basket with holiday goodies. Snap a photo and share with us for your chance to win your very own Fall Studio stamp set!

When we met with Sue to create the template for November, we talked about different designs and things that would be useful for the holidays - a Basket of Thanks immediately came to mind. "Happy Candy Corn Day"

National Candy Corn Day is not a traditional holiday that is widely celebrated, as most of us are focused on putting the finishing touches on Halloween. But it just sounds so delish! Do you have special plans for Halloween night? Or are you staying in to pass out candy for the neighborhood trick-or-treaters? Make the best of doorbell duty by hosting a night "in" filled with watching classic Halloween flicks.

And what's a movie without snacks right? Right. One part salty and one part sweet, equals a festive and tasty candy corn treat! ENJOY!

Spooky Sweets Treat Card:

Cut a 7" x 5" kraft cardstock base. Score at 3.5" and crease at the fold.
Stamp the dots background from the Dots and Lines stamp set in orange ink repeatedly down the front of the card.
Cut a diagonal strip of white cardstock. (TIP: The diagonal pattern from the dots on the card base are a great guideline for your diagonal line.)
Stamp background sentiment from Spooky Sweets stamp set in black on your diagonal white strip.
Cut a 1" strip of black cardstock. Punch with the decorative edge punch and adhere along the diagonal edge of your white strip. Trim edges to replicate shape. Set aside.
Cut orange cardstock 3 5/8" x 3 1/2". Be sure to trim the top half of the orange to mimic the diagonal slant.
Adhere orange cardstock to card base.
Adhere white diagonal strip with decorative edge to orange along the diagonal. Be sure to line up edge to edge.
Stamp "Sweet Treats" sentiment on the orange cardstock in black ink.
Stamp the candy corn image from the stamp set on white cardstock. Color with Copic Markers and punch out with a 1 1/4" circle punch.
Layer the punched out image on black cardstock punched out with a 1 3/8" circle punch.
Adhere candy corn image to the card base.

Spooky Sweets Snack Basket:

Download the CSS Trick-or-Treat Template and print. (TIP:You can print directly on light colored cardstock or designer paper.)
Since we used black cardstock, trim out the pieces to the template to use as a guide.
Prepare all of your pieces. (TIP: When cutting the body of the basket, cut the main 9 3/4" x 5" base. Score at the marked score lines from the template and make sure to crease the lines before you cut the strips. This will help create the curve. Also, if now would be a good time to add any decorative elements to the body of the basket.)
Cut a 1" x 9 3/4" strip of orange cardstock.
Punch orange cardstock with decorative edge punch.
Adhere tabs around the perimeter of your first circle.
Adhere second circle on the inside to cover up tabs.
Secure basket sides together at top.
Stamp dots background from the Dots and Lines stamp set. (TIP: Decorate your handle before attaching to basket.)
Add handle on with brads.
Fill your basket with a mix of popcorn and candy corn, or your favorite Halloween candy and enjoy!

Okay, how about not so spooky but really cute candy corn treats?

With Halloween fast approaching, we wanted to share a little project in honor of the most legendary sweet treat of the season. You guessed it - candy corn. And believe it or not, Hallow's Eve is also known as National Candy Corn Day. We had so much fun making these goodies. The hardest part was getting through the photos without eating all of the props!

Spooky Sweets Treat Marker:

Punch a circle on kraft cardstock.
Punch a circle on orange cardstock.
Cut your orange circle in half.
Punch the drip punch along the flat edge. (TIP: Center the cardstock on the punch this way your punches will be close to even on both sides.) Set aside.
Stamp background sentiment from Spooky Sweets stamp set in white on your kraft circle.
Adhere orange cardstock to kraft circle.
Stamp "Sweet Treats" sentiment on the orange part of the treat marker in black ink.
Sponge the edges lightly with black ink. (TIP: For a very mild effect tap off your sponge before applying to the cardstock. You can also sponge the orange drips to add depth.)
Stamp the candy corn image from the stamp set on white cardstock. Color with Copic Markers and trim. (TIP: Outline the edge of your trimmed image with black to remove any white areas after cutting.)
Adhere candy corn image.

Feeling in the Candy Corn mood?
Try your hand at making your own.

CANDY CORN RECIPE

Ingredients {Yields about 80 pieces}

2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup dry powdered milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup corn syrup
1/3 cup unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Food coloring, if desired

Combine confectioners' sugar, powdered milk, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
Combine sugar, corn syrup, and butter in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Add the dry milk mixture to the saucepan, and stir to combine. Let mixture rest for a few minutes until it is cool enough to handle.
Divide dough into 3 equal parts and place each portion in a bowl. Add coloring as desired.
Knead each portion of dough until the coloring is evenly distributed and the dough is smooth and stiff.
Roll each portion into a rope about 1/2 inch thick.
Place the three ropes of dough next to each other to form a long rectangle. Use a rolling pin to gently press them together.
Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into triangles and place on a baking sheet. Let set for about 1 hour.

One thing we love to do around here is make backgrounds using our stamp sets. We've checked ourselves into DPA "Designer Paper-Aholics", and are trading in some of our DP today for stamps. And as you can see in today's card, we couldn't totally kick the habit but why let good paper go to waste!

Wishing You the Best Card:

Cut 5" x 7" white cardstock for the card base, score at 3.5" and fold at crease.

IMAGE

Stamp tree image from Woodlands stamp set on white cardstock.
Color image with your Copic Trio sets. Green tones for the leaves and Earth tones for the trunk. (TIP: You can add a line under the tree trunk with a gray marker to create a shadow).
Layer image on brown paper and trim closely.
Add coil clip to top left side of image, set aside.

DP PANEL

Trim green cardstock to 3" x 3.5".
Trim Brown cardstock 2 7/8" x 3 3/8".
Trim DP 2 5/8" x 3.25".
Trim rust cardstock 1 7/8" x 2 5/8".
Take small background image from Woodlands stamp set to create a background. Stamp your image (in brown ink) repeatedly until you fill the rust cardstock with the pattern you desire.
Adhere rust cardstock to DP, adhere DP to brown, adhere brown to green, and finally adhere all to the white cardstock base.

FINISHING DETAILS

Add pop dots to your image panel and adhere to center of layered cardstock on the base.
Stamp your choice of sentiment from the stamp set on the card base in black under the image panel.

Christmas Cookies

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas....wait we haven't even gotten through Halloween yet! But who can resist the sweet smell of freshly baked cookies? This new set COOKIE BAKE is wonderful for creating fun packaging and tags when gifting those sweet treats this holiday season.

Cookie Bake Card:

Cut 8.5" x 5.5" kraft cardstock for the card base, score at 4.25 and fold at crease
Select your DP, trim to 4" x 5" and run through die cut machine to create label base on card.
Sponge white ink around the edge of your cut DP.
Stamp sentiment from Cookie Bake stamp set in brown ink on white cardstock.
Layer sentiment on red cardstock, trim closely.
Add red gems to the "i" in Christmas and Holiday.
Wrap twine around die cut DP (TIP: You can hold your ribbon in place by adding a piece of tape to the backside.)
Add button at bow tie closure of your twine. (TIP: You can add a glue dot to secure your button in place.) Be sure to trim excess twine.
Add DP to kraft card base using small pop dots.
Adhere sentiment to DP.

Have you ever gone and picked out your Christmas tree from a tree farm? It's quite an experience. The fresh smell of pine is undeniable - truly a must do, and fun for the whole family! It's much better than trying to guess how the limbs on the tree will fall once you get home with your pre-bundled, picked over tree. You know the ones displayed in masses at your local parking lot tree shops that spring up right around Thanksgiving. Make a day of it - grab the camera, pack a thermo full of hot cocoa, throw on a cozy old sweatshirt and head out to a tree farm with the family.

O'Tree Farm Card:

Cut 3.5" x 5" kraft cardstock card base
Stamp your choice of any three trees from the O'Tree stamp set on white cardstock
Trim white image panel to 3 7/8", layer on red cardstock and trim closely
Cut designer paper 4.75" x 1.75", layer on red cardstock and trim closely
Cut brown ribbon 6.5" and thread through brown button, slip around designer paper panel and tie knot to secure. (TIP: You can add adhesive to the ribbon on the back of the panel to reinforce the ribbon)
Adhere designer paper panel to bottom of kraft card base leaving just a small trim of edge showing
Add pop dots to your image panel and adhere half to card base and half to the designer paper panel underneath the button.
Trim excess ribbon.

Pumpkin Patch

Have a little fun this fall - go on a hay ride, sip some cider and why not go visit a local pumpkin patch! You may not find Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin but plenty of adorable little ones you can carve and set around the house for decoration.

Start this card with a simple tan cardstock base layer your designer dotted paper on a dark brown cardstock and adhere to the base. You then stamp your focal image on white cardstock and color in with Copic Markers. Next, layer the image on dark brown cardstock, add a tab ribbon and pop up on the card base. Lastly, stamp your "Pumpkin Patch" sentiment directly on the card base in the bottom right side and you card is complete.

Hark the Hearld Angels

Sing a song for the sweet TASTE OF CHRISTMAS! Masking was the name of the game today when using this newly released stamp set. We used song hymnals as the background designer paper for this card project. We then layered it on two colors of cardstock to add some color behind the paper. For the main cupcake image we masked the angel topper and then stamped the cupcake of choice on top.

You will notice three different cupcake options and {6} topper choices in this set! The great thing about this set is that it can be used year round, and not just for the holidays. We added a kraft strip with a sentiment, layered with an offset strip of border punched paper and adhered to the designer paper panel.

Today we have the pleasure of introducing Lori Tecler.....

Q: When did you start stamping?
A: I started stamping about 6 years ago. I was introduced to stamping by my best friend and haven't stopped since.

Q: Describe your style?
A: My style is usually pretty clean and simple. Sometimes I stray from that with projects with more layers and stuff, but clean and simple is what I find myself going back to over and over.

Q: What is your favorite CSS set and why?
A: This is such a hard question--I have lots of favorites! I love Clear and Simple Stamps' signature Darlings line. I think my favorite Darling might be Martini Darling. My non-Darling favorites are Get in Gear and Sweet Tooth.

Q: What do you like about being on a design team?
A: It's great to have an opportunity to help spread the word about a product that you really love to use and to have fun while you're doing it. Our CSS DT is a great group of creative, supportive stampers. I'm so glad to be a part of it!

Q: What advice to you have for new stampers?
A: Experiment with different styles until you find the one that works best for you. Join in on online challenges (like our monthly Take the Challenge at CSS) for inspiration and ideas.

Q: If you had to get rid of all your tools, and could only keep one, which tool would you keep and why?
A: Another hard question! I've got to have my paper piercing tool. I use it a lot for paper piercing and for faux stitching, too.

Think Pink

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some time back we created the Awareness Darling as a nod to breast cancer survivors, those currently fighting the battle, and for our loved ones we've lost but surely will never forget. Join CSS in taking a stand to find a cure for breast cancer. We have a badge located in our sidebar that you can copy and paste to your blog, "Simple Darlings for a Cure".

This card was created for a group on SCS. The purpose of the swap was to raise money to donate to a breast cancer research foundation. For every swapper signed up the organizer would donate $1 to the foundation. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to play along!

This card and matching envelope were a fun set to create. We started with a basic light pink card base. We then divided the next layer in thirds. The bottom third being designer paper with a pink and brown design, a small pink strip of cardstock to make up the middle portion and the top third was brown cardstock. By having the designer paper on the bottom this draws your eye to view the card top to bottom. We punched a notch in the base so we could add a removable note to the outside of the card. On that removable note we stamped our Awareness Darling and added a tab punch with the sentiment " Find the Cure".

Sneak Preview: AUTMUN

There is something so classic and soothing about Autumn. It must be the changing leaves and beautiful fall colors. This sneak peek uses two of our soon to be released stamp sets from the Autumn Collection: WHEAT and AUTUMN. Both are sure to be must have staples in your CSS stash.

A rust colored base sets the tone for this fall inspired card. We stamped one of the background strips from the WHEAT set to make a patterned background. On the opposite side of the card we stamped the wheat image and sentiment using a brown ink on cream cardstock. The two panels are joined with a strip of brown paper and embellished with sparkly brown gems. Even Autumn can be blinged out!

This card started with a white card base, layered with a panel of designer paper. The trick-or-treat sentiment was stamped in black and layered on orange cardstock. Punches can work out great to make your own stationery. It's like magic how they can transform a plain piece of cardstock into art with just one punch.

This card is a tribute to Minnie Mouse - the queen of polka dots. We punched black cardstock and added a deep pink and white swiss dotted ribbon. To match the cards, we lined each envelope with polka dot liners made using the DOTS and LINES stamp set. And we even found a good use for those left over punched out shapes. We made them into envelop seals by attaching glue dots to the back.

The baby is sleeping. Have a new little one in the family? Send them a blessing of sweet dreams, with this adorable NAPTIME stamp set. Perfect for invitations, announcements and welcome baby cards and gifts.

This card was fun to make. We took on our own personal challenge to create a baby card and not use traditional baby colors. So we decided to go a little more retro with orange and purple. The designer paper was punched in all four corners using a decorative edge punch. A smaller panel was added to the card front with a stamped image of the sleeping koala. It was adorned with a brown sating ribbon and stamped with the beginning of a verse: "Now I lay me down to sleep". Sweet dreams little one!

Don't Be Scared

Who says Halloween has to be scary? Or is it even scarier to design a one layer card? With so many great embellishments available, it can sometimes be hard to revert back to the days of simple one layer cards.

Choose a set with great iconic images to be the focal point on your simple cards. For this card we chose the mix and match pumpkin and smiley face for the image, and a fun "A Halloween Hello" sentiment from the PUMPKIN PATCH stamp set. We then added a decorative strip of ribbon across the top of the card. Finally, we layered the panel on brown and adhered it to the orange cardstock base - not so scary after all!

It's All About the Die Cut

Sometimes you have to cut loose and make a card just for fun! Since we are paying tribute to World Card Making Day, we thought it only fitting to have fun with our die cut stamp image and sentiment from YOUR BEST SHOT stamp set.

We took designer paper and used the Top Note die cut. The perforated edge was then trimmed off. A second Top Note die cut was run using a solid tan cardstock. This way it could be layered easily with the designer paper. It was adhered off center to the edge of the card base and the excess was trimmed off. You can choose to wrap your die cut around to the back to add more of a design element to your card.

Next we tied a thin piece of tan ribbon to the card to anchor the dual colors in the base. The die cut image was stamped in brown on orange cardstock, and then popped up off the card. We finished the card with brown gems for accent touches and acute sentiment that fittingly reads: "It's all about the die cut"!

Brighten someone's day with a festive fall card. Kraft is a perfect card base for that earthy, fresh from the garden picking pumpkins kind of look! The images were stamped on white cardstock and colored using Copic Sketch Markers. A duplicate pumpkin image from the set PUMPKIN PATCH was stamped, colored, cut out and popped onto the main image in the panel. It was then sewn onto a brown layer of cardstock and adhered to the card base. The orange stitching creates a fun border of color on this neutral tone card.

O' Christmas Tree

The holidays are right around the corner. Have you started making your holiday cards yet? We started with a fun card using a set from the latest release, O' TREE. This set has a variety of adorable Christmas trees and sayings. In addition, there are several mini tree silhouettes to play with for your cards.

The card base was layered with a holiday polka dot paper and stamped with the sentiment O' Christmas Tree. Across the middle a punch of bright green ribbon was added. And for this card we lined up the silhouettes to create a row of festive red and green trees. The trees were then layered onto red and black cardstock. And there you have it, a bright and cheery card that is easy to mass produce for the holidays.

Every once in a while a product comes along that changes the industry. Let's be honest, who doesn't love their die cut machine? They are awesome, and boy do they cut down on time. So why not have a little fun with your stamping and crafting friends and send them a "shot" out with our newest set YOUR BEST SHOT!

This is a standard 4.25" x 5.5" card base. A panel of striped paper was layered on cardstock that was punched with a decorative border on both sides. A large circle was added to spotlight the popped up die cut machine image, which was colored using Copic Sktech Markers. We added the sentiment "this shot's for you" to complete the card.

Costumes for Candy

By definition, Halloween is celebrated with lots and lots of candy. Well, by our definition it is celebrated that way. HOLIDAY DEFINED II was released this week adding to the collection of fun holiday definitions that can be used for cards, scrapbook pages, calendars - you name it.

We stamped and cut out the silhouette bat image. It was adhered to the upper left corner of the Halloween definition. Both were layered to a panel that had been punched using a decorative border punch. And to bring the card all together, the sentiment and panel were adhered to the funky Halloween inspired designer paper and card base.

We stamped the train as our main focal image, colored it with our Copic Sketch Markers and layered on cardstock. We repeated the "I think I can" block sentiment to create a background for the card base. We added the "choo-choo train" sentiment and popped the train for a bright, inspirational card for any child.

One of the best images of fall are the changing autumn leaves. One could look out the window for hours and treasure the beauty and colors of fall. Using the HARVEST stamp set, we stamped two leaf silhouettes down the left side of the card base. We then layered a panel of autumn striped paper. Popped off the lower right side of the card base is an open leaf image that was colored using Copic Sketch Markers and stamped with the sentiment "so grateful". A simple, colorful card for the autumn season.

Sneak Preview: Naptime

We are excited to introduce our newest baby set NAPTIME, which will debut in our Playtime Release tomorrow. This set is jammed packed with cuteness, two main images, mix and match announcement/shower invite and lots of playful sentiments.

Today we are sharing a simple card that is perfect for a new baby. We stamped the sleeping koala image and colored it in with Copic Sketch Markers. The noses were colored to match the coordinating papers. The image was popped on the pink/blue paper and adhered to the white card base. A simple "Welcome Baby" sentiment was added to complete the card.

Are you getting ready for Halloween? We sure are, and loving our newest BEWITCHED stamp set. This set contains a few sassy silhouettes and bewitching sentiments.

This card uses one of the witch images layered on orange and black cardstock. A small circle is punched, adhered to the layered witch image using a green brad, and adorned with a purple ribbon swatch. A wide strip of designer paper is layered and adhered to the purple card base. We chose to use two of the sentiments to flank both the top and bottom of the decorative panel. Add the sassy witch and our hauntingly fabulous Halloween Card is complete.

As the sneak peeks continue, we bring you a challenge card from this weeks Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge. HARVEST is a new set releasing September 15th, along with the background set DOTS and LINES. Both great sets that have numerous possibilities.

For this sketch challenge we kept it simple. The dots images created a nice pattern for the card base. We added a wide band of brown paper to the middle of the card and layered the main fall image on kraft. The image was colored with Copic Sketch Markers and all four corners received a decorative punch.

Sneak Preview: DOTS & LINES

As the crisp morning air rolls in on the eve of Labor Day weekend, you know Autumn is quickly approaching. So today we are sharing a card using AUTUMN SENTIMENTS. This set offers a variety of greetings, variation of orchid buds, and a two step vase.

We chose to use the full vase as the main image. After stamping the image it was colored using our Copic Sketch Markers, then added a layer of dark purple cardstock and rounded the opposite corners. Attached to the card base we stamped our newest dots background stamp from the DOTS & LINES set (releasing September 15th) in a soft mossy green color, and layered it on light purple cardstock.

The next layers are using the orchid buds. We used two of the different buds to create a pattern. Each bud was masked and we stamped the line background stamp in a slightly darker green color across the strip to create a pattern. And lastly, we stamped the sentiment "Birthday Wishes", layered on both light and dark purple cardstock and popped it on the top of the card.

Playbook of Champions

Are you ready for some football? It's about that time for the college football season to get underway. Whose your favorite team? We are all about the Big Ten, especially those top seated Ohio State Buckeyes!

The layout for this card would work perfectly for whichever team you are routing for - just switch out the color scheme and there you have it. We took the fun background stamp in the FOOTBALL set to make our background paper. The image has a variety of football terms that are easy to stamp and repeat. We then stamped the drawn up play and sentiment on a piece of white cardstock that was layered on red and adhered to the stamped background, all of which is attached to the base. The football was also stamped and colored using our Copic Sketch Markers, and added to the left corer of the card using pop dots. And seeing as though we are Buckeye fans, we finished off the card with "Go Bucks" spelled out with our soon-to-be released BITTY ALPHA MODERN stamp set - great for personalizing any project!

The whole gang from the GET IN GEAR stamp of the month set showed up to offer get well wishes. We colored each of these adorable robots in with our Copic Sketch Markers and layered them on black cardstock. We stamped two sentiments from the set on the bottom right of the red card base. Added a band of striped DP and popped the Robots. A quick card packed with fun to brighten anyone's day who may be feeling a bit under the weather. This is just the right card to help get them in gear!

Are you the Top Chef in your house? A fun way to gather with friends is always over food. Plan a fun night in and pick a great menu to showcase some of your best cooking skills. Set the mood that it will be a learning experience by sending out kitchen inspired invitations like the one shared today.

Start with a fun designer paper, this one has great kitchen utensils, which works perfectly with our theme. Next stamp the dinner lid image from the BON APPETIT set twice - once in red to cut out the lips and the second time in black. Color your image in using the Copic trio set Cool Gray to create shadows and highlights in your image. After coloring add liquid glaze to set the image and create a nice glossy affect. Allow the lid time to dry.

Next stamp the sentiment from the BON APPETIT set twice and adhere the lid. Trim the sentiment around the lid and layer, adding the same trim details. Sandwich a piece of ribbon between the base and the sentiment of the card, leaving just the tail cut at an angle.

In Holy Matrimony

It seems like Tiffany blue and chocolate brown are true staple colors on the wedding circuit these days. Today's card features the influence of layering. Whether it is through varying fabrics, textures, or graphical designs (like we did here), layering adds interest to any card. Don't be afraid to mix and match patterns. Dots, lines and floral patterns go very well together.

A solid light blue layer was adhered to the brown card base. A wide strip of floral designer paper was added vertically. A kraft layered was placed horizontally to ground the focal point of the card, which is the flourish image from the stamp set TOGETHER. This set includes a variety of flourishes, and we chose to use one of the larger solid images. Beneath the flourish is a layer of polka dot paper in a richer, dark brown with varying hues of blue dots, and two rows of tan ribbon. The sentiment "In Holy Matrimony" was repeatedly stamped across both the top and bottom of the kraft card stock. The result is a trendy spin on a traditional wedding card by having fun with layers.

I'm a Rockstar

While we are on the subject of fashion and it's influence on paper crafting - what about music and crafting? Ever get inspired by a song on the radio while you are making a card or project? We sure do. Don't you just love it when you can bop to the music while cutting and scoring and creating a mini masterpiece? So today, our tribute is to good old fashion Rock and Roll. The genre of music that put leather pants, sheer shirts, and velvet jackets on the cool list!

So, what was our inspirational music you might ask? A little number from Pink, aptly titled "I'm a Rockstar" Now this song is seriously stuck in our heads!

When we first saw this paper the ROCKSTAR stamp set immediately came to mind. The paper was trimmed and layered with black cardstock on a maroon base. The "Rockstar" sentiment was stamped in maroon ink and the same ink was used to sponge the edges. We added a strip of maroon velvet ribbon. And what's a rock inspired card without a little bling? We embellished the sentiment by flanking it with a row of ruby rhinestone gems.

Friendship in Style

Buttons are all the rage in both fashion and crafting these days, as they should be - we love buttons! And like most folks we've got jars and jars of buttons in our stash, so today we are putting them to good use, while creating a few cards to celebrate good friends.

The sentiment here is so true "girlfriends are the best kind of friends". We rounded the bottom corners on this card and layered with deep purple paper and some fun designer paper with colorful dots. You can use any patterned dp or even make your own from your stash of stamps. We then stamped the sentiment from the FRIEND set on kraft paper and snipped both ends with decorative scissors. Next, a ribbon was wrapped around one end and embellished with a button. A small panel of dark purple cardstock was added to balance out the card.

We then made a simple card featuring the angel wings from the FRIEND stamp set. No buttons were used on this card but you could add some small button brads or mini buttons between the wings for a cute little head. Just so many possibilities with buttons! For this card we stamped a row of wings in complimentary colors: yellow, purple and orange. The panel was layered on dark purple carstock and adhered to the card base. We stamped a sentiment and added some gold cording ribbon.

We have another sketch challenge to share with you today, Sweet Sunday Sketch from our friend Karen Giron. She does the most fabulous sketch challenges every Sunday, if you haven't participated before, pop on over and you'll see why we just had to play along.

This card was super fun to make with our JET-SETTER DARLING. She is uber trendy and just loves to travel in style, so shouldn't her designer paper be just as trendy too! Love this paper from Lil Davis Designs, who just happens to now be part of the Fiskars family - very cool.

We paper pieced her hand bag with the reverse side of the designer paper, and popped it up off the image. We stamped the sentiment "jet-setter" on light orange cardstock and punched with a tab punch. That's one of the great things about clear stamps, you can bend them to work with just about any shape. The inside has a 1" border of the diamond pattern along the bottom to coordinate with the outside of the card.

We've been bitten by the challenge bug here lately. We had so much fun hosting the 2 Sketches 4 You challenge, that when Susanna Boyd's PaperCraftPlanet sketch challenge came across, we just had to play!

This card came together fairly easy and plays off all of the colors in the designer paper. We followed Susanna's sketch for all the layers. We stamped the tulip and sentiment from the SPRING SENTIMENT S stamp set. The opposite corners on the main image were punched with a decorative element to mimic the design in the DP as best they could.

And we didn't stop with just a card. If you are battling a bit of a cold, you'll definitely need some tissues to keep handy. The top of the box was decorated to match the card. The same decorative corners were applied. The hole for the tissues was punched using a plain oval punch. A second scalloped oval punch was used to create a delicate border around the opening. The sentiment was stamped on the front and pierced using the SCOR-BUG.

EDITED: We've gotten a few emails on the template for the tissue box cover. We took a mini tissue pack and went from there. The directions are as follows:

Cut your base cardstock color 7.5" x 4 3/8"
Score at 1", 3.25", 4.25", and again at 6.5"
Crease all of your score lines to make the shape of a box
Determine the style of an opening you'd like. We used an oval punch.
Fold your 1" flap that will be toward the back of the box under and punch your center hole. It will clip the edge of your flap but you'll hid that. You can also cut out the center section with an exacto knife.
Add adhesive to the flap that has been punched, and adhere underneath the opposite end. This should form the shell of your tissue box holder.
Decorate the front and top of the box how you please. We added a layered DP with decorative punched corners, and punched scalloped oval trim.

So here's a question for you - What's more fun, hosting a dinner party or being a guest at one? Our GOURMET DARLING loves a great dinner party and is perfect to make adorable hostess gifts, menus cards, and invitations.

This card is a one layer card. The image is stamped directly on the card base and colored in with Copic Sketch Markers. The apron is colored in using the new pastels color R0000. A matching pink plaid ribbon is tied at the fold and a layered sentiment was popped on the card base.

It's tradition to host a bachelorette party, so why not do it in true diva style. Our I DO DARLING, is all blinged out and ready to show off her new rock!

The Black and Pink DP set the mood for this card. We stamped and colored the image with Copic Sketch markers. Then layered it on light and dark pink cardstock. A strip of white cardstock was punched using a decorative border punch and tucked under the right side of the card. To anchor the card, we added the sentiment "Bachelorette", using the word window punch. There is no mistaking that this party is for ladies only!

This little fishy hasn't a care in the world. There is something peaceful and calm about water. It is often in those quiet moments listening to the ocean waves that remind you to enjoy the simple things in life!

This card uses both the DEEP DIVE and LIVE LIFE stamp sets. The image was stamped on white cardstock and colored in with Copic Sketch Markers. A piece of blue cardstock was punched with a decorative border and added to the layer. Blue dew drops were added to give the appearance of little bubbles. The panel was adhered to the card base and the sentiment punched out, layered, and popped up to complete the card.

Sneak Preview: SCHOOL DAYS

Ready for the first day at a new school? For most of us the first day of school was a big deal, especially if that meant starting out at a new school. Here's a fun gift set created with our SCHOOL DAYS stamp set releasing tomorrow! The perfect set for older kids switching school's or getting a new start.

If you have to take notes in class, why not do it in style! This altered notebook was super easy to make. The sentiment reads: "Times are changing each and every day, but the memories of school will always stay". We stamped the "study hard" sentiment from the set three times. We thought it was a good subtle reminder.

Love these little lockers! The SCHOOL DAYS set contains two different styles of lockers for you to choose from. Here we decided to pop up a few items in the locker to give a bit of dimension. It's layered on some great argyle designer paper and we added a fun sentiment in the lower right corner.

Today's A+ DARLING card is a fun one for all you teacher's out there. In our book, Teacher's definitely deserve an A+! We stamped and colored the darling with our Copic Sketch Markers, layered on coordinating cardstock and embellished with a cute little paperclip. It's always great when you can find every day things to embellish your cards. The sentiment was stamped and layered just like the main image. The card base has been layered with cardstock and designer paper. A fun border was created using the notebook punch. And finally we popped both the darling image and the sentiment onto the card.

Sneak Preview: LACROSSE

If you've ever watched a lacrosse game, you'll know it takes a lot of heart to play this game! This weekend, as part of our School Days release, this fantastic LACROSSE sport set will be available. Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports in the Americas. The object of the game is to catch, carry, and pass the ball to score.

If you want to be a champion, you must eat, sleep and play lacrosse! This card was created using two layers. The lacrosse image was stamped and colored in with Copic Markers. A blue border was penned around the image and sentiment.

The LACROSSE stamp set is perfect for creating 6 x 6 scrapbook pages. This layout will hold two pictures flanked by a header of primary colored lacrosse sticks. Each stick was colored using Copic Sketch Markers.

______________________________

For this card we started with an orange card base, layered with white embossed cardstock. The lacrosse sticks were masked, layered and adhered to the base. The I {heart} lacrosse sentiment was stamped in white ink on a brown strip of cardstock and then embellished with a button. And lastly, we added a heart button because we truly do {heart} lacrosse.
